BOSTON (CBS) — The state trooper involved in a deadly Plymouth crash, appeared in court Tuesday for a pretrial hearing.

Police say 25-year-old John Basler was off-duty when he hit a car on Federal Furnance Road in September.

Sixty-four-year-old Susan Macchi and her 23-year-old daughter Juliet, died in the crash.

Tuesday’s hearing lasted just a few minutes and future court dates were set.

Basler is charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and negligent driving.

Police say his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit to drive.

Basler, who joined the State Police last March, has been placed on administrative leave.
