Avoiding Peak Travel Times Could Save You Hours In Gridlock

BOSTON (CBS) --- They are not the kind of lights travelers want to see during the holiday season - brake lights.

Last year, the night before Thanksgiving, major traffic delays tied up area roadways.

If you're heading out to grandma's house for Thanksgiving, avoid some key times at traffic hot spots.

The busiest exits along the Massachusetts Turnpike are the highway interchanges for 84, 495, 95 and 93.

The toll plaza inevitably get clogged up.

MassDOT says the busiest times to drive through the Weston Tolls are 7 p.m. Tuesday night and 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

And in Sturbridge, 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and 1 p.m. Wednesday.

But the travel nightmare does have a small perk.
