CAMBRIDGE – A Cambridge man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 73-year-old uncle, whose body was found in a Cambridge apartment late Monday night.

Harold Antoine Maxwell, 34, of Cambridge, was arrested Tuesday without incident. Authorities say 73-year-old Jesse Maxwell suffered severe head and neck injuries.

“That was my pal,” said Tawanna Rezendes said of Jesse Maxwell. “He didn’t bother nobody.”

Rezendes says the victim sold newspapers for the community newspaper Spare Change.

Jesse Maxwell lived alone at the historic George Close Building on the fourth floor.

“He was a nice, kind gentleman,” said resident Tammy Duerden. “I’ve got four kids, three little ones, it makes me feel very unsafe.”

Maloney Properties, which manages the building, declined to talk about the case.

The executive director of Just-A-Start, which helps find homes for people who need subsidized housing, says the man lived in the building for 14 years.

Harold Maxwell will be arraigned in Cambridge District Court on Wednesday.
