Besides the obvious storyline of "Brady-Manning XIV," another interesting narrative to the game was the return of wide receiver Wes Welker to New England.

In general, Socci said the receiver was received positively from the hometown fans.

"There was a message that was displayed on the large video board at Gillette from the Kraft family and the Patriots organization thanking Wes for his six years of service. There was a close up of him on the sideline that NBC showed at some point later in the game, they didn't do it right away, and there was a nice round of applause," said Socci.

"In the game, there was one time I can recall that there was a round of boos after a catch by Welker helped along a drive [for the Broncos]. I think it was a mostly positive reaction, I didn't sense any overwhelming disenchantment from the fans toward Wes. I think he got a nice greeting."

"It was a bittersweet return to Foxboro," concluded Socci.
