Daily Talker: Walmart Food Drive For Employees

A Walmart store in Canton, Ohio is getting a lot of criticism online over a food drive asking workers to donate to help fellow employees.

"Please donate food items so Associates in Need can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner," read one of the signs in a photo posted on Organization United for Respect at Walmart's Facebook page. The post also asks, "Why can't Walmart pay us enough so we can feed our families?"

A spokesperson for Walmart says the drive is part of the company's Associates in Critical Need Trust, which helps workers facing critical needs or hardships.

"This program was completely taken out of context," the spokesperson said. "We are offended. This was an act of human kindness for our associates."

What do you think about the food drive? Should Walmart be asking its employees to donate to this drive? Or does it show the chain doesn't pay its workers enough? Leave your comments below.
