Lowell Man Arrested For Nighttime Break-In Of Sturbridge Home

STURBRIDGE (CBS) --- A Lowell man is behind bars after police say he broke into a home while the resident was asleep inside.

After midnight Monday, the homeowner called police to report someone was breaking into her home on Stony Brook Drive.

The woman locked herself in a room and stayed on the phone with police until they arrived.

As police pulled up, a 2005 Buick sedan was driving away from the home.

One of the officer saw the car pulling out of the dead-end street and followed the car.

After a short pursuit, the suspect was ordered out of the car. Inside, police found a safe, a computer printer and a scanner.

These items were taken from the home, minutes before.

Daniel Orneas, 27, of Lowell, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the night for felony, armed burglary (Orneas had a box cutter), destruction of property, possession of burglarious tools, disturbing the peace, failure to stop for police, driving while under the influence of drugs and negligent driving.

According to police, the home was chosen at random. Orneas is being held at the Sturbridge Police Department and will be arraigned in Dudley District Court on Tuesday.
