Boston Marathon Bombings Fund-Raiser Held For Injured Norden Brothers

BOSTON (CBS) -- A fund-raiser was held Sunday night near the Boston Marathon finish line for two brothers who were badly hurt in last April's twin bombings.

J.P. and Paul Norden each lost their right leg in the Boston Marathon bombings. They have both come far in a short period of time, but the ongoing medical costs are daunting and the the fund-raiser at the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street was designed to give them a lift.

After months of rehabilitation and medical procedures, the Norden brothers returned to the Forum, where they were watching the marathon to cheer on a friend who was running the course when the bombs exploded.

"For me, it just doesn't end. It's very emotional," said their mother, Liz, "so to have them back to where their lives changed, is a big thing."

Paul Norden's smile speaks volumes, but he's the quiet type. So his brother spoke for the pair Sunday night, grateful to be alive but worried about the financial road ahead.

"His leg is, I think, a hundred and twelve thousand dollars," J.P. Norden said. "Ya gotta replace it every three to five years, and so they said my prosthesis ... mine's gonna be (more than a million dollars) in my life.

"It's kinda scary to think about that."

That kind of financial pressure is what made Sunday night's fund-raiser deeply appreciated by the whole Norden clan, said Peter Brown, J.P. and Paul Norden's uncle.

"They came to the Marathon to watch a good friend run the Marathon, and now they're in a marathon for their life," Brown said.
