Key Votes Slated On East Boston, Revere Casino Projects

BOSTON (AP) — Two Massachusetts casino proposals are facing key votes.

Residents of the East Boston neighborhood and the city of Revere will decide Tuesday whether to allow Suffolk Downs to go forward with its bid for a $1 billion casino at the 78-year-old thoroughbred race track.

The project recently received a setback when casino operator Caesars Entertainment withdrew amid concerns raised during a background check by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. Suffolk Downs says it will name a new partner by year's end.

If voters say yes, Suffolk Downs could compete with proposals in Milford and Everett for the sole eastern Massachusetts resort casino license.

Voters in Palmer will decide Tuesday on a casino proposed by Mohegan Sun. If approved, it would compete with MGM International in Springfield for the western Massachusetts license.
