Celtics At 7: Effort Is There, Just Not The Results

BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sports Hub is the new radio home of the Boston Celtics, so at 7pm the Adam Jones Show will be bringing you a nightly feature talking all things Green Team.

Tonight's topic was about the slow start of the Celtics and the silver lining behind it all.

Heading into tonight, the Celtics are 0-3 and are one of only four teams in the NBA that have yet to win a game. Making matters worse is the way in which they've lost games. They all follow a similar script: All three of those games one team has been down big and rallied back to win.

It's a familiar trend for inexperienced teams trying to find their identity, and this holds true for the Celtics so far on the young season. Despite not having a win to their name, Adam Jones thinks if you're a Celtics fan you should be happy with the results so far.

He explained why Monday night:

"You're conditioned to want them to win those games. You want them to protect leads. Brad Stevens wants that. Every single player in that locker room wants that. As a Celtics fan this has gone perfect. The team has played relatively hard in two games they've been down. That to me on some level speaks to Brad Stevens being able to coax something out of this team," said Adam Jones on the Celtics' effort.

First-year coach Brad Stevens is still learning the NBA game. The former Butler University coach has mixed and matched his lineups, and some of his moves have been questionable thus far.

One being, the lack of playing time for Kris Humphries. Not a superstar by any means, but at his best he's a guy who can go down low and grab rebounds. And if they're trying to get their young players experience, why the lack of playing time for Phil Pressey? These are all reasonable second-guesses for Stevens.

This team won't be competing for a championship, but Adam Jones believes the next best thing for this young team would be to develop the younger guys and bring maximum effort on a nightly basis. And maybe, just maybe you can get lucky in the NBA lottery.

"If the young players develop and the Celtics continue to pile up losses - but have a decent work ethic - that's the best of all worlds. That's what you want as a Celtics fan. You want those ping pong balls to hopefully bounce your way, but you at least want the best odds when the lottery rolls around in June."

Jones and Rich Keefe talked about the absence of Rajon Rondo and how his knee injury is hurting the team from an x's and o's standpoint. The guys also fielded calls from the listeners who voiced their concerns for this season.
