Mass. State Police To Participate In 'Tweet-A-Thon'

BOSTON (CBS) -- If you're on Twitter Friday, chances are you will notice "#poltwt" all day long.

Massachusetts State Police are joining more than 100 police agencies across six countries in a "Tweet-A-Thon."

The all day event aims to bring attention to the use of social media by law enforcement.

State Police will be tweeting from the Troop C Headquarters in Holden.

The tweets will include what's happening within Troop C, the calls they are responding to and arrests.

Troop C covers Central Massachusetts from the New Hampshire border to the north, Connecticut and Rhode Island to the south.

If you want to follow along, Trooper @DustinGFitch will be tweeting for the @MassStatePolice.

"We are grateful for our Twitter followers and hope they enjoy this glimpse of a day in the life of one of our Troops," said Fitch, the department's Social Media Specialist.

"We have participation from agencies in New Zealand and Kenya all over Europe, Canada and the US." said Lauri Stevens, founder of LAwS Communications and organizer of the Global Police Tweet-a-thon. "We're calling attention to the great police work being done globally as well as connecting cops around the world."
