NH AG: Woman Shot Fleeing Police Had Drugs, Alcohol In System

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster says a woman shot and killed by a state trooper in Manchester last month had drugs and alcohol in her system.

Foster released test results Friday that show 45-year-old Wendy Lawrence had a blood alcohol concentration of .18 percent, more than double the legal limit for drunk driving. He says she also had marijuana, a painkiller and an antidepressant in her bloodstream.

In a report issued earlier this month, Foster said Trooper Chad Lavoie was justified in shooting Lawrence on Sept. 30 after a traffic chase. The report said Lawrence drove aggressively at Lavoie, who was out of his cruiser, and he thought his life was in danger.

The report said Lawrence feared prison time because of prior offenses.
