Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt In Crash On Interstate 93 In Canton

CANTON (CBS) -- A motorcyclist lost control of his bike Sunday night on Interstate 93 at Exit 2B and suffered injuries that were considered life-threatening, the Massachusetts State Police reported in a prepared statement.

At 7:53 p.m., troopers from the state police barracks in Milton were dispatched to the crash, which occurred on the southbound side of the highway.

A 43-year-old Dedham man operating the 1998 Suzuki motorcycle lost control of the bike and suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, the state police said. A medical helicopter took the man, whom the state police did not identify, to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. I-93 was closed for a short time to create a secure landing zone for the helicopter.

A passenger on the motorcycle, a 36-year-old woman from Dedham, suffered injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening, the state police said. The woman, who also was not identified by state police, was taken in an ambulance to Norwood Hospital.

Troopers from the Milton barracks are investigating the crash along with troopers assigned to the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. The Canton Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted at the crash scene.
