Video Shows Speeding Car Nearly Hitting Trooper In O'Neill Tunnel

Trooper Nearly Struck in O'Neil Tunnel by Mass State Police on YouTube

BOSTON (CBS) - Massachusetts State Police have released video that shows a cruiser nearly being struck in a construction zone inside the O'Neill Tunnel.

State Police say Trooper Clement was inside his cruiser with the flashing lights on to warn drivers that the two left lanes were closed. The video shows a small black sedan speeding and nearly hitting the cruiser.

The car slid out of control after missing the cruiser by only inches. Trooper Clement stopped the vehicle. State Police say the motorist was not impaired, but have not released any other information.

In a Facebook post, the department says, "This video shows why it is so important to slow down in construction zones, and pay attention to the road construction signs. This incident was only inches from being something far worse."

The surveillance video appears to be from October 7 at 4:16am.
