Thermal Imaging Company Donates $10,000 To One Fund Boston
FRAMINGHAM (CBS) - The Massachusetts State Police delivered a $10,000 donation to the One Fund Boston Friday morning.
The check was presented on behalf of FLIR, the company that created the infrared camera that captured video of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev following the Boston Marathon attacks. WBZ-TV's Michelle Roberts spoke to state police about the donation and how the technology helped lead to an arrest.

"I think it's a great offer on FLIR's part to recognize the victims of the marathon bombings and that they are doing their part to help them get back on their feet and get back to hopefully some normalcy," said Tim Riley, the executive officer of the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing.
The 95 pound camera has a 360 degree view and the tactical flight officer can set the target with a control and watch on a screen.
"It's the most recent version of the FLIRs that we have on our aircraft in the unit," said Riley.
The infrared camera detects heat and uses the information to create a black and white picture. So when state police got a tip that the marathon bombing suspect was hiding in a boat in Watertown, they put the FLIR to the test.

"It was very evident that it was a person was a person in the boat," said Riley.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested soon after and Riley says it speaks to the quick action of many. "There's not one individual that can take credit for the whole thing," he says. "I think it was a collective work by everyone involved. I certainly do think it could have gone a different way."
