Pregnant Woman, Police Officer Injured In Chelsea Crash

CHELSEA (CBS) – A pregnant woman, a police officer and one other person were injured in a three-car crash in Chelsea early Friday morning.

Around 2:20 a.m., Police say Elvin Maldonado, 37, of Hyde Park was speeding on the southbound side of Route 1 when his car slammed into a minivan right at the start of a road construction site.

The chain reaction sent the minivan crashing into a police car that was parked at the site.

A pregnant woman and another person in the minivan were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

A 35-year-old Chelsea police officer who sitting in the police cruiser was also injured.

All three are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Maldonado was arrested and charged with reckless operation.

He will be arraigned Friday in Chelsea District Court.
