Government Shutdown Leaves Veterans Without College Tuition Assistance
BOSTON (CBS) – Northeastern University says the government shutdown means no federal tuition assistance for a couple dozen veterans who plan to start classes there next week.
Northeastern is now asking the Defense Department to find the money, while the university covers the costs in the short-term.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens reports
“Some of the military academies played their football games this weekend so they’re able to find the funds for some priorities. We think they have to find the funds for this particular priority too.” Northeastern spokesman Mike Armini told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday.
Armini points out that this is a national issue because veterans attend schools across the country.
