Newton Police Find Woman Wanted In Hit-And-Run Driver Search

NEWTON (CBS) – Newton police say they've found the woman wanted in a hit-and-run crash that injured an elderly man.

The victim, an 87-year-old from Needham, was hit while walking across Walnut Street in Newton Highlands Friday evening.

He's at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with serious injuries.

Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 they received a tip about the driver after they made surveillance video near the accident scene public.

An officer went to the woman's home and found the blue Honda believed to be used in the crash.

"After speaking with her, it was learned that there was a warrant for her arrest on unrelated charges.  The officer placed her under arrest and the investigation is continuing," Apotheker said.

The woman's name has not been released.  She is said to be in her 60's.

The victim's name has also not been released.
