Teenage Driver Strikes, Injures Couple And 1-Year-Old Child In South End Crash

BOSTON (CBS) -- Police are investigating a pedestrian crash Sunday afternoon that injured a couple and their 1-year-old child in the South End neighborhood of the city.

Soon after 3 p.m., a car struck the couple and their child at the corner of Columbus Avenue and Dartmouth Street, according to public safety officials and witnesses. The mother and father were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries, and the -1-year-old was taken to Tufts Medical Center, where the child was treated and released, police said.

The mother was taken Beth Israel Medical Center and the father was taken to Tufts Medical Center.

A 17-year-old girl was the driver of the car that struck the pedestrians, police said. The teen, who has a junior operator drivers license, is facing civil violations but has not been charged with a criminal offense, according to police.

After the driver struck the pedestrians, the car struck a light post at the corner of Dartmouth and Lawrence streets, breaking the post in two and pulling it from the ground.
