40,000 People Expected At Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk In Boston

BOSTON (AP) — Thousands of breast cancer survivors, families and caregivers are among 40,000 people expected in Boston on Sunday for the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

Participants in the country’s largest and oldest one-day breast cancer walk hope to raise about $3 million and increase awareness about the disease.

The Boston event has raised about $52 million since its inception in 1993.

The Sunday morning walk starts at the Hatch Memorial Shell and moves along both sides of the Charles River before looping back to the Hatch shell.

The event offers participants an opportunity to join a national study that will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
