GLOUCESTER (CBS) – Two people managed to escape after their SUV plunged off a pier into the waters off Gloucester on Friday.

The 41-year-old driver told police that his flip flop sandal got stuck under the accelerator, sending the vehicle down Stone Pier directly into the river.

They landed in water that was deep enough to submerge most of the SUV. The two were able to climb out of the moon roof, and escaped without any injuries.

The harbormaster is working on getting the car pulled to shore.
