Public Piano Project Coming To City Streets

BOSTON (CBS) --- If you are out and about in Boston, Somerville, Cambridge or Brookline over the next couple of weeks, you might be surprised to find a piano outside.

In a large warehouse in South Boston, there is now a forest of 75 beautifully decorated pianos that this week are being placed outside.

It's all to celebrate the 75th anniversary of "Celebrity Series."

Gary Dunning is the president of Celebrity Series he says people playing and others watching, creates a mini-community at any moment of the day.

"The great thing about a piano is that it's the most interactive toy you could ever have," Dunning told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens. "People have fun with it."

After October 14, the pianos will be donated to community groups.

The pianos are available for anyone to play and enjoy.

A kickoff event is scheduled for City Hall Plaza on Friday.
