Pedro Martinez To Serve As Studio Analyst For MLB Playoffs

NEW YORK (AP/CBS) — Boston Red Sox fans have waited three years for their team to get back into the playoffs, and now they'll have one of their all-time favorites helping analyze the games.

Former Red Sox great Pedro Martinez is set to serve as a studio analyst for TBS during the baseball playoffs, which begin Tuesday October 1 with the NL Wild Card play-in game.

The network said Monday that the three-time Cy Young Award winner will join host Keith Olbermann.

The 41-year-old Martinez last pitched in the 2009 World Series for Philadelphia. He has done some local media appearances in Boston — sorting out, as many recently retired athletes must do, how to fill his newly discovered free time. Always talkative, Martinez saw other ex-players thriving on TV and figured he might fit in there, too.

Martinez was 219-100 with a 2.93 ERA in 18 major league seasons with the Dodgers, Expos, Red Sox, Mets and Phillies. In 2004, he helped Boston win its first World Series in 86 years.
