RAYNHAM (CBS) — The gunman who killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard Monday went to a Buddhist temple in Raynham last month.

Eang Tan, a board member at the Thai Buddhist temple in Raynham, told the Taunton Daily Gazette that Aaron Alexis visited there August 18 and talked about noises in his head.

He said when temple members saw Alexis’s picture on TV after the shootings they called police “right away.”

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Mark Katic reports

Raynham Police Chief James Donovan told the paper they forwarded the information to the FBI.

Tan said Alexis spoke to temple members in fluent Thai and asked for a place to spend the night.

But the temple does not allow overnight visitors, so they asked him to look into sleeping at a hotel.

Tan said Alexis claimed he couldn’t sleep in a hotel because of the noises in his head, so he stayed on a cot in an old school that the temple leases from the town.

Alexis left the next day.

Earlier this week, Newport, R.I. police revealed Alexis told them he heard voices speaking to him through the walls of his hotel room and felt a “microwave machine” sending vibrations into his body.

Alexis had also spent time at the Newport Naval Station and complained of insomnia during an emergency room visit to the VA Medical Center in Providence.
