DA: 16-Year-Old Driver Hit, Killed Teen On Bike In Hopkinton

HOPKINTON (CBS) --- Authorities say a 13-year-old boy was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon by a 16-year-old driver in Hopkinton.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office identified the victim Thursday as Shayne Desroches.

The crash happened on Route 85 around 5 p.m. about a mile from the town's high school and middle school, where Desroches was an eighth grade student.

He was hit as he was crossing the road, turning into his driveway.  Investigators have not said if he was wearing a helmet.

A family member told WBZ-TV Thursday Shayne was a smart, creative boy who was loved and will be missed.

He was struck while heading home after hanging out with friends after school.

He biked the route often and knew the road well, according to his family.

No charges have been filed against the driver at this point in the investigation.

Her name has not been released.

Students gathered outside Hopkinton High School Thursday morning to remember Shayne.

They posted a photo to Twitter a short time later.
