Concord, NH Police Seek ID Of Body Found In Wooded Area

CONCORD, NH (CBS) - A man made a gruesome discovery in Concord, New Hampshire Tuesday morning when he found a body in a wooded area near a Walmart and Sam's Club.

Police could be seen keeping a close eye on the potential crime scene which is about 80 feet from Route 106.

Two women say they had smelled something strange for almost two months as they drove by and when they heard a body was found they pulled over to speak with police about what they knew.

"Since the beginning of August, last week of July, it's been smelling like a skunk, really bad skunk," said Jennifer Drew.

Police say the body was found with no identification and so unrecognizable they are not sure if it is a man or woman.

They are hoping someone comes forward with a tip.

Investigators do not even have a rough age at this point but they believe it is an adult. They say the body is quote "badly decomposed."

Police say the deceased had short dark hair, possibly a grown-out buzz cut, and was wearing dark jeans, a gray t-shirt, and an olive green fleece.

Investigators are not aware of any high-profile missing person cases in the area that this could be connected to.

"Nothing that leaps into my mind right now but we are certainly going to look into that, research our own records," said Concord Police Lieutenant Tim O'Malley. "And we are certainly going to be reaching out to the rest of the state and maybe beyond that to see if anyone has a reported missing."

Right now they are not calling it a crime scene because they do not know if foul play is involved.

The priority is figuring out who the person is and how they died.
