Phantom Gourmet: Vanilla Wafer Taste Test
BOSTON (CBS) — Phantom recently purchased four boxes of sugar wafers at a local supermarket.
The sweet and crispy contenders were Bauducco, Biscos, Murray and Vista.
Murray Vanilla Wafers finished last.
This sugar-free cookie features peach colored wafers and a double layer of cream that is sweetened with Splenda.
At first bite, this brand tastes okay, but it’s quickly brought down by a bad aftertaste that’s all too common among artificially sweetened treats.
A step up from there is Bauducco.
With the prettiest packaging by far, this sexy Italian import boasts three creamy layers and a natural flavored filling.
While the light and airy wafers melted in Phantom’s mouth, the sweet filling left a bit to be desired with barely any hint of vanilla.
The runner-up is Biscos.
Unlike the others, these cookies come in a box filled with three stay fresh packs.
Once Phantom finally got to the goods, he found small thin, pale wafers that were light as air but still served up plenty of sweet flavor for their size.
On the downside, Biscos were the most expensive brand by far, proving that sometimes you’re really just paying for all that packaging.
At the top of the food chain is Vista.
This budget brand features a no frills clear wrapper that allows customers to see the bright orange wafers that await.
With two thick layers of sweet filling and a satisfying crunch in every bite, Phantom was shocked at how well these cookies stacked up against the competition.
This delicious underdog came through with a one-two punch of flavor and value that proved adictively irresistible.
That’s why Vista Vanilla Sugar Wafers are at the top of the food chain.
