BOSTON (CBS) — Last season, Brandon Lloyd was a very productive wide receiver for the Patriots. He was not a superstar, but he caught 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns.

He was curiously let go by the Patriots in the offseason, and the 32-year-old did not sign anywhere before the season began. With the Patriots currently thin at wide receiver, and with some doubt cast upon the team’s rookie receivers’ ability to step up right away, many fans and analysts have asked why the team hasn’t re-signed Lloyd.

The Patriots have reportedly asked that question, too, with Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reporting that Lloyd turned down at least six teams’ offers to play this season, including one from the Patriots.

“Lloyd has no interest in playing, taking the position that he’s neither physically nor mentally ready to continue,” the report said.

Lloyd was released in March before a $3 million roster bonus was due to kick in. His hard-to-read personality was also reportedly not very well-received in the Patriots locker room, in part leading to the team’s decision.

The off-field issue, however, clearly wasn’t enough to prevent the Patriots from at least inquiring about Lloyd, who caught 12 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in the team’s two postseason games last year. Yet it looks like those may be the last receptions he makes in the NFL, based on the report.
