Court Date For Patriots' Dennard Pushed Back To September 16

BOSTON (CBS) - The Friday court hearing for Patriots' cornerback Alfonzo Dennard has been postponed once again.

Dennard was due to be in court in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday to determine if his July 11th arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence violated his probation. Dennard's new court date is now scheduled for September 16 at 10:30 a.m..

The new date comes four days after New England's home-opener against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium.

Dennard's original court date was August 27th, but was then moved to Friday before being postponed again.

Dennard received two years of probation after he was convicted of felony assault of a police officer stemming from an April 2012 incident. He received a light sentence for that charge, and was scheduled to serve 30 days in jail in March 2014 -- after the upcoming 2013 NFL season.

But that could change if a judge determines he violated his probation with the July arrest. Dennard could find himself serving the sentence, and potentially a longer one, immediately.

Dennard, a seventh-round pick by the Patriots in 2012, is expected to be New England's starting cornerback alongside Aqib Talib. He played in 10 games as a rookie, recording three interceptions, seven pass deflections, and 35 total tackles.
