Report: Police Probe Obama Threat Allegedly Made By Retired Mass. Officer

SABATTUS, Maine (AP) — A town official in Maine says police are investigating whether a Maine man who led a drive to mandate gun ownership threatened to shoot President Barack Obama.

A posting on a Facebook account belonging to David Marsters, a retired police officer from Massachusetts, used a racial slur and suggested shooting Obama. When someone criticized the posting, the answer was that Obama "is not a legal president."

The Sun Journal, which first reported the threat, says Town Manager Andrew Gilmore said federal authorities have been notified of the threat.

Marsters, who has taken out papers to run for town selectman in Sabattus, didn't immediately return a phone message.

Town selectmen rejected a proposal by Marsters to require heads of households to own guns to "provide and protect safety of the city."
