NightSide - Armand Desmarais Talks About A New Way To Learn

BOSTON (CBS) - The Mastery School of Independent Learning is opening in Fall River this autumn, and it will take a whole new approach to the way we educate children. Instead of traditional grades, the students will be grouped by their mastery of the material, and will only advance once they demonstrate they are ready. The student-to-teacher ratio can never exceed 15 to 1, and the school day will be much longer than the traditional public school day, stretching from 7:30am to 5:00pm. With our public education system struggling to stay effective, would you ever consider sending your kids to an alternative school like the Mastery School? Executive Director Armand Desmarais sits down with Dan to talk about how the program works.

Originally broadcast August 19th, 2013.
