DANVERS (CBS) – A man shot by Danvers police has died, the Essex County District Attorney announced Friday afternoon.

Police say Scott Kehoe, 37, of Danvers, was armed with a knife when police were called to the Avalon Apartments for an assault around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Danvers Fatal Police Shooting

In a statement Friday, District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said Kehoe confronted five Danvers Police officers and one State Police trooper.  As Kehoe approached the officers, he allegedly tried to stab them several times.

"Officers repeatedly instructed Kehoe to drop the knife, however, Kehoe eluded capture and lunged toward an officer," Blodgett said.

That's when he was shot.

He was rushed to Beverly Hospital where he died.

Blodgett promised a "full and impartial review" of the shooting.
