BOSTON (CBS) – After making his Major League debut on Tuesday night, Xander Bogaerts will get Wednesday afternoon off.
Despite lefty Barry Zito getting the start for the Giants, Stephen Drew will be back at short stop for the Red Sox as they close out their three-game set in San Francisco. Though he usually struggles against left-handers, Drew is 11-for-33 with eight RBIs against Zito for his career.
David Ortiz also returns to the Boston lineup, batting cleanup and playing first, after getting Tuesday off. He went 0-for-5 on Monday night as Boston’s first baseman, but is 10-for-25 with a pair of home runs in his career against Zito.
Here is the full Red Sox lineup for Wednesday:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Shane Victorino, RF
3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
4. David Ortiz, 1B
5. Jonny Gomes, LF
6. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
7. Stephen Drew, SS
8. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
9. Felix Doubront, SP
After Tuesday night’s loss, the Red Sox find themselves out of first place in the AL East, percentage points behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
With a win on Wednesday, Boston will avoid their third straight series.
