Boston Marathon Bombings

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — A procession of police officers on motorcycles has paid tribute to fallen Massachusetts Institute of Technology Officer Sean Collier by putting a single red rose where he died.

More than 100 officers from Boston area police departments took part in Saturday’s ride, which started in Cambridge.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Kim Tunnicliffe reports

Organizers say the event was put on by Ride4Cops and raised $50,000 to help families of officers who die in the line of duty.

Saturday’s procession also visited the Law Enforcement Memorial at the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston, where participants placed a wreath.

A federal indictment alleges surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) and his brother fatally shot Collier on April 18 while trying to elude authorities.

Collier was 27 and planning to join the Somerville Police Department.
