6 NH Stop & Shop Stores, 3 Gas Stations To Close Friday
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS/AP) ---- Six New Hampshire Stop & Shop supermarkets and three gas stations will close for good Friday night.
The company that owns the stores, Stop & Shop Supermarket LLC said earlier this month, the stores were not meeting performance goals.
The stores will permanently close their doors at 9 p.m. Friday.
"We deeply appreciate and thank our associates for their years of service and dedication to the communities of Southern New Hampshire. We thank our loyal customers for their patronage and appreciate the opportunity to have served since 2003," the company said in a statement.
The company said it will work with union and local officials to provide job search assistance to workers affected by the closings.
The stores being closed are in Bedford, Hudson, Exeter, Milford, and Manchester.
It's not clear how many jobs are being lost. The company said it employs about 63,000 associates and operates more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey.
