Man Pleads Guilty To Fatally Hitting Wife With Car

QUINCY (AP) — A Quincy man has pleaded guilty to negligent motor vehicle homicide after fatally running over his wife outside their home last year.

The Norfolk District Attorney's office said Tuesday that 49-year-old Michael Rivard was sentenced to two and a half years in jail, with 20 months to serve and the rest suspended during three years' supervised probation during which he is banned from driving.

Rivard also pleaded guilty to unsafe operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

Rivard's lawyer had asked that his client given a two-year sentence, with one year in jail and the rest suspended for one year.

Police said Beatrice Rivard was killed in November when Rivard ran over her and their adult son on a sidewalk.
