Red Sox Recall De La Rosa, Send Beato Back To Pawtucket

BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Red Sox recalled right-hander Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Pedro Beato was optioned to Pawtucket, according to a prepared statement from Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington.

De La Rosa was expected to be available for Saturday night's game against the Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.

De La Rosa, 24, is making his second appearance on the Red Sox roster this season. He did not appear in a game during his previous stint with Boston from June 14 to June 15. The Dominican native was named a 2013 International League All-Star with Pawtucket, where he has posed a 3-3 record with a 4.23 ERA and 74 strikeouts.

Boston acquired De La Rosa from the Dodgers last August in the nine-player trade that sent Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Nick Punto, and cash considerations to Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old Beato has posted a 1-1 record with a 3.12 ERA and four strikeouts in nine relief appearances over three stints with Boston this year. In Pawtucket, he has a 5-3 record with two saves, a 2.18 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 25 games out of the bullpen.
