Mother, Daughter Charged With Stealing Car, Jewelry In Fairhaven

FAIRHAVEN (CBS) – A mother and daughter have been charged with stealing a car and jewelry together.

Fairhaven police say 53-year-old Rhonda Stone and her 23-year-old daughter, Devyn, stole a 2003 Lexus ES300 from a parking lot last Friday, moments after the driver was involved in a minor crash.

Police found the car less than an hour later at a pawn shop in New Bedford.

While processing it for evidence and fingerprints, they found loose pieces of jewelry scattered on the floor.

That jewelry matched an earring that was allegedly pawned by Stone and her daughter after the car heist.

The pair were found later at a motel in Fairhaven.

"When Fairhaven detectives knocked on the door of the rented room, it was opened by Devyn Stone, who answered the door with a hypodermic needle and syringe in her hand," police said in a statement.

"Devyn's mother, Rhonda Stone was sitting on one of the beds in the room also with a hypodermic needle and syringe in her hand. Both women were taken into custody without incident."

Rhonda Stone was charged with receiving stolen property valued at over $250, larceny of a motor vehicle and knowingly being present where heroin is kept.

Devyn Stone was charged with receiving stolen property valued at over $250, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of heroin.
