Amy Lord's Brutal Murder Rattles Nerves In South Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Young women in the city's South Boston neighborhood are fearing for their safety after the kidnapping and stabbing death of 24-year-old Amy Lord this week.

Police believe Lord was in her Jeep going to a gym when she was abducted Tuesday around 6 a.m., taken to five ATM machines to withdraw cash, then stabbed to death at Stony Brook Reservation in Hyde Park.

"That's my routine," Addie Dion, a young woman who moved to Southie about a year-and-a-half ago, told WBZ NewsRadio's Mary Blake, who is also Dion's mom. "That could have been me. That's what I do every day. It's just really kind of frightening."

Dion said Lord's killing has her thinking twice about her safety. "I kind of take a second look out my door now because it really could have been any other girl," she said.

Other South Boston young women share Dion's concerns.

Tina Griegel said she has been taking the bus to work instead of walking two miles since Lord's killing. "There's definitely more people being more aware," she said.

Bailey Hart said she's trying to avoid taking any chances in the neighborhood. "I have been really nervous," she said. "I'm not really going out at night anymore."

Lord's killing was one of three attacks on young women in the same South Boston neighborhood within a 24-hour period. In the hours after Lord's kidnapping and murder, another woman was stabbed and a third was punched, according to Boston Police. The other women managed to escape their attacker. A man faces charges for one of those attacks and has been named a person of interest in the Lord case

Despite the violent incidents, Dion said she has no plans to move.

"You can't predict where these things are going to happen," she said. "You never thought the finish line at the Boston Marathon ... tragedy was going to happen."
