BOSTON (CBS) – #14: Save on Stamps: Schedule payments for your bills online and you won’t need to buy stamps.

Dee: Good idea, but only if you can get free electronic bill paying from the bank. There are still some banks out there that charge a monthly fee for this feature. Another way is to have as many of your monthly bills charged to your credit card. And send more e-cards and you’ll save on stamps and cards!

#15 Free Credit Report: Don’t pay for your credit report. Request a free copy once a year from each of the three credit-reporting companies at AnnualCreditReport.com.

Dee: Good idea! There are 3 reporting agencies, Equifax, TransUnion and Experian, request one report every 4 months so you are checking your credit report for free at least 3 times a year.

#16 Find Free Stuff: Websites like Freebie-Depot.com, Mrfreestuff.com and Shop4Freebies.com offer samples of products and online coupons and rebates.

Dee: I checked the websites and there appeared to be some good deals but you need to sign up for their newsletters and give them your physical address. Again the deals are great only if you are looking to have spider veins taken care of or want horseback riding lessons.

#17 Seniors Pay Less: Many retailers, including Kohl’s, offer discounts to older people, usually over 55, on certain days of the week.

Dee: One of the perks to being over 60 is the senior discounts. The key is you have to ask what day and figure how convenient it is to shop usually on a Tuesday.

#18 Comparison Shop: Free apps by RedLaser and Shop Savvy let you scan the bar code of an item and compare in-store and online prices at other retailers.

Dee: Works well if you don’t need or want the item immediately. Not practical if the store with the better price is across town. The cheapest price is not always the best deal.
