Toddler Drowns At New Hampshire Pond

SUNAPEE, N.H. (CBS) -- A 3-year-old girl apparently drowned Sunday afternoon in Perkins Pond, the N.H. State Police Marine Patrol reported.

At about 11:54, the Marine Patrol was dispatched to a shoreline residence on Perkins Pond to investigate a possible drowning. Marine Patrol officers were told the girl was playing outside with family members when she wandered off. The toddler was found minutes later in the water about 12 feet from the shore, the state police said.

The girl was removed from the water and CPR was performed. She was taken to New London Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the state police said.

The 3-year-old's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
