MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have identified a woman shot to death in Middleboro, as well as a man police shot when they responded to help her.

The Plymouth District Attorney’s office reports 65-year-old Norma DesRoche died after she was found at her home Thursday with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

And the DA reports the man officers injured in her driveway is 52-year-old Thomas Buttimer. Police shot Buttimer after he allegedly pointed a firearm at officers who’d come to assist DesRoche.

In a press release, the DA said Buttimer had been staying at DesRoche’s house, but gave no further details.

Buttimer faces charges including armed assault with intent to murder a police officer. He has not been charged in connection with DesRoche’s death

No date had been scheduled for Buttimer’s arraignment.
