Sandwich Man Dies After Hit And Run Crash On Sagamore Bridge

BOURNE (CBS) – A second man who was injured in a hit and run crash near the Sagamore Bridge last week has died.

The crash happened around 8:25pm on the westbound side of Route 6 on Thursday, July 4.

Michael Furlong, 43, of Sandwich was ejected from the pickup truck he was driving when it was struck by the hit and run driver. Furlong was taken to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries and died Thursday.

Investigators say a dark colored pickup truck hit Furlong's truck in the eastbound lane, sending the truck head-on into a minivan traveling westbound. An Israeli man in the minivan suffered fatal injuries.

The dark-colored pickup truck took off from the scene, state police said.

State police said the vehicle fled eastbound on Route 6. They believe the truck has minor to moderate damage to the left side of the vehicle's front-end or its left side.

District Attorney Michael O'Keefe says the investigation is ongoing.
