Maine Fire Department Searching For Clues After $500 Helmet Goes Missing

YORK, MAINE (CBS) -- Authorities are asking the public's help in tracking down a fire department helmet valued at nearly $500.

The helmet from the York Village Fire Station went missing sometime between Tuesday, July 2 and the 4th of July.

Firefighter Stephen "Reggie" Carr was going out on a fire call when he realized his helmet, a N5A New Yorker leather fire helmet, was not with the rest of his gear.

The fire department says the helmets are not department issued, rather they are bought by individual firefighters.

If you have any information about where the helmet may be, contact the York Village Fire Dept. at 207-363-1015 or York Police Department officer Shawn Darrow at 207-363-4444
