Death Of Elderly Woman In Chelsea Home Investigated

CHELSEA, Mass. (AP) — Firefighters found an elderly woman dead in her Chelsea home after neighbors reported they hadn't seen her in a few days.

Authorities say firefighters had responded to a small electrical fire before neighbors asked them to check on the woman around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Suffolk District Attorney's Office spokesman Jake Wark said investigators are now probing the circumstances of her death.

The woman lived on Washington Avenue and was in her late 80s or early 90s.

Authorities said the fire wasn't suspicious and wasn't believed to be connected with the woman's death.

Wark said the medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of the victim's death. But he said people should check on elderly neighbors and family because of the area's heat wave.
