Celtics Sign First-Round Pick Kelly Olynyk

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics have signed 7-footer Kelly Olynyk, their first-round draft choice.

The Celtics traded up in last month's draft to pick Olynyk with the 13th overall selection.

Olynyk made his summer league debut on Sunday and scored 25 points in the Celtics' 95-88 loss to the Houston Rockets.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge sent the No. 16 pick and two future second-rounders to the Dallas Mavericks to get Olynyk, who was fifth in voting for the Wooden Award. Olynyk averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds while leading Gonzaga to a 32-3 season.

The 7-footer is one of the first pieces of the rebuilding process the Celtics have launched since they were bounced by the Knicks from the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of this year's NBA playoffs.
