Six Rescued After Crashing Boat Onto Jetty Off Newburyport
NEWBURYPORT (CBS) - A mishap off Newburyport left six boaters stranded on a jetty Thursday night.
Newburyport Assistant Harbormaster Paul Hogg said four adults and two children were on board the 23-foot boat on their way to watch a fireworks display on Salisbury Beach.
Instead, they ended up needing to be rescued after crashing the boat onto a jetty.
Officials say the combination of the driver's unfamiliarity with the area, darkness and high tide may have all contributed to the crash.
Speed was not believed to be a factor.
No one was injured.
The boat did suffer significant damage to its hull.
