59-Year-Old Drowns After Falling In Merrimack River In Concord, NH

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire State Police have recovered the body of a fisherman who drowned in the Merrimack River in Concord, N.H.

The Marine Patrol was called to the river below the Sewall's Falls Dam on Friday around 2 p.m.

A witness reported that a man had been fishing on the river's band, when he stepped into the water to retrieve an object, apparently lost his footing and stepped off a steep drop-off into the water.

Police say efforts by people on shore to rescue him were unsuccessful.

The Marine Patrol recovered the 59-year-old's body around 5:45 p.m.

His name is being withheld until family is notified.
