Family Member Pays Tribute To Milton Teen Killed In Arkansas Crash

MILTON (CBS) -- The aunt of 18-year-old Merritt Levitan, a Milton resident who was killed this week when a car struck a group of bicyclists traveling through Arkansas on a cross-country trip, has posted several tributes to her niece on her Facebook account.

"My heart is broken but yet so full of love for Merritt Levitan, who was so, so, so much more than my niece," Terri Levitan Katzenstein wrote in one of her posts.

Levitan was one of 13 cyclists traveling from Charleston, S.C., to Santa Monica, Calif., as part of a six-week trip organized by a Williamstown, Mass.-based company called Overland.

Levitan died at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, Tenn, according to Arkansas State Police and Overland. A nursing supervisor said Levitan died Wednesday afternoon.

Six other cyclists were injured in the crash. In a prepared statement posted on its Facebook page, Overland reported that three of the injured cyclists were airlifted from the crash scene.
