Police: Man Killed On I-93 In NH Was About To Change Tire

WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) — Police say a man who stopped in the breakdown lane of Interstate 93 in New Hampshire to change a flat tire was killed when another driver struck the car, hitting him.

Police said the man and two passengers were in the process of removing the spare tire from the trunk at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. They had stopped in the stopped in the breakdown lane of southbound I-93 near Exit 3 in Windham.

Police said a car being driving by 47-year-old Pauline Kochniec of Berlin rear-ended the car. The impact caused the man to be carried a short distance along the road. He suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kochniec was taken to Elliott Hospital to be examined. She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
