Police ID Orange Man Killed In Drug Raid

ORANGE, Mass. (AP) — State troopers have identified the 23-year-old Orange man who confronted them with a firearm during a drug investigation at his apartment.

State police said Thursday that Corey Navarette confronted police as a tactical team executed a search warrant at about 5 a.m. Wednesday in support of an investigation into prescription painkiller sales.

Police say one or more troopers opened fire, striking Navarette. He was declared dead at a hospital.

A 25-year-old woman who lives in the apartment suffered an eye injury. State Police on Thursday did not identify her.

State police say they will not release more information while the shooting is investigated and the Northwestern district attorney's office determines if the use of deadly force was justified.
